Alan Shanedling and Jonna Sabroff go to Washington
Dear GCLA Board & Membership
Alan and I had a very exciting trip to Washington DC. We were able to visit 9 California Representatives either in the House or Senate. It was very exciting walking through the underground tunnels at the Capitol and walking down the corridors of Congress. The GCLA was lobbying our California representatives to support the RIDE Act to make it a more comprehensive law which would limit the authority of California airports accepting Federal Funds to increase fees and add regulation to the limousine industry in California. The California Limousine Industry is made up of 5,000 small businesses with 35,000 employees and our representatives are listening. We are voters.

We also attended a fundraiser for 8th term congressman, Bill Pascrell, D/NJ. The fundraiser was arranged by Barry Lefkowitz, NLA Lobbyist and funded by the NLA PAC. Congressman Pascrell is going to support our bill and is also going to personally negotiate with the IRS regarding the “gas guzzler tax” limousine operators have to pay when we purchase our vehicles. The Congressman was a great speaker and he seemed to know how to get things done. We all had our pictures taken with him. It was very exciting.

Just a sidebar: Regarding oil, Steve Qua, President of the Ohio Limousine Association asked the congressman: “What is the doomsday scenario for the US drilling for its’ own oil?” Congressman Pascrell answered: “I have voted against drilling 5 times. I believe in alternative fuels. I have voted for new technology. The good people of New Jersey do not want to go to the beach and see an oil rig off the coast of New Jersey. And besides it could take 8 years before we would get the oil and it would not result in lower prices at the pump.”
HE DID NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION AND HE KNEW IT.
To a completely silent room of about 150 supporters, Lobbyist Barry Lefkowitz took the microphone from the Congressman and said, “Bill Pascrell is still our friend” and that was the end of it.
NLA PRESIDENT’S SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
We also attended the President’s Meeting which was chaired by the NLA to see what is happening in the States. It was very interesting. One state was very successful. Barry Lefkowitz is their lobbyist and they have set up a PAC Fund and sponsor both Democrat and Republicans in their state house and in DC.
